Montreal Family Activities January 2024

Happy New Year! As we enter a new year, and I hang up a fresh Standing calendar on my wall, I’m so excited about all the fun activities that await for you and your family! While this January may not look exactly like we’re used to here in Montreal (snow, where are you?!), there are still plenty of Montreal family activities January 2024 has to offer.

If you didn’t have a chance to check out Luminotherapie or Lighthouse Immersive, check out my December blog for more details.

Comical Cuties – Until January 28

The Montreal Museum of Fine Arts has a fun, free weekend morning activity for young families with kids 2-5 years old. Children can use materials to make fantastical characters. The workshop takes place on Saturday and Sunday mornings and registration is required on-site, on the same day.

Chasers of the Lost Sleep – Until June

The Planetarium has a new show for the family to learn all about eclipses. In this 27 minute film, an insomniac chicken, who is also a social media star, lives on the moon and teaches us about solar eclipses. The film is best for kids 7+. Check it out before the actual eclipse takes place on April 8, 2024.

Skating at the Old Port – Until March

Sledding and skiing conditions might not be ideal but the ice rink at the Old Port is perfect for a winter activity outing. During the winter months, every Friday night (and Wednesdays too) feature a musical theme night like 80s pop or movie soundtracks. Kids under 6 are free, while kids are $6.75 and adults are $10. Rentals are available on site and you can warm up at Le Grand Roue bistro with a cup of hot cocoa.

Montreal Auto Show – January 19 – 28

A great indoor activity for the entire family at Le Palais des Congrès, the Auto Show features 3 levels of cars and vehicles. Families can discover concept cars, electric vehicles and so much more. Kids under 6 are free and tickets for children are $9, and $16 for adults.

Igloofest – January 20 – February 10, weekends

I never thought this well-known outdoor music festival was for families but, this year, every Saturday features a slew of kid-friendly activities. Located at Quai Jacques-Cartier in the Old Port, this free section of the festival is open from 1-6pm. It features games including pickup hockey, slides, a photo booth and s’mores stations. Food trucks are also on site for lunch or dinner.

Recreoparc Rendez-Vous Polaire – January 20

Located in Sainte Catherine, Quebec, this winter wonderland hosts monthly events, the first of which is on January 20th. All activities are free including access to the skating paths, cross country skiing snowshoeing and hiking. From 12-4pm there are extreme challenges and at 4pm a DJ will be playing hits from the 70s and 80s.

Laval en Blanc – January 26 – 28

The city of Laval celebrates winter at Centre de la Nature. This 3-day event kicks off on Friday night and continues into the weekend with tons of activities including: fireworks, an obstacle course, snowball fights, snow sculptures, drum shows, hockey, skating and more. All activities are free.

Geordie Theatre Fest – January 26 – 28

The Geordie Theatre company opens to the public with two special productions. The Perfect Storm is for kids 7+ showing daily at 1pm and Instant is for 12+ showing at 7pm. The cost of tickets is $17.25 for kids and $23 for adults.
