Back to school. Back to routine. Back to being busy. But as we hopefully enjoy an extra month of summer weather, we shouldn’t take a step back from enjoying weekend outings. This month’s guide to Montreal with kids September 2026 has a little bit of everything for everyone.
Joat Festival – September 1-7
This street dance competition is taking place at Quartier des Spectacles, featuring both local and international dancers. The preliminary youth talent competition is free to attend. Plus, there are plenty of dance workshops, live music concerts, a beach area and an art market.
Gardens of Light – September 3 – November 1
An annual tradition at the Botanical Gardens, this year features new exhibits in the Japanese, Indigenous Peoples and Chinese gardens. The event takes place at dusk and entry is free with admission to the gardens. Visit later in the month to enjoy the Halloween festivities too!
Taco Fest – September 5-7
Things are getting spicy in the Old Port at the Clock Tower Pier as 25 vendors set up for this festival. The weekend includes a guacamole school, hot sauce bar and tequila tastings. The event becomes adults-only in the evenings but families are welcome to attend from 11am to 3:30pm. Entry ranges between $10-$20/person plus fees for food.
Jackalope Festival – September 11-13
Action sports head to the Old Port with over 150 athletes competing in skateboarding and bouldering challenges over the weekend. Free activities include demonstrations of Moto-X and BMX and Calisthenics shows. This will be a jaw dropping festival to watch from the sidelines.
Rougemont Weekends Gourmands – September 12 – October 18
Head to the town of Rougemont any weekend this fall and be sure to download the new app to discover all of the fun activities in the region. From apple picking to wine tastings to food trucks to tractor rides, there is a weekend’s worth of activities to enjoy.
Sutton Fall Festival – September 19 – October 18
Head to Mont Sutton during any of these five weekends to take in the beautiful foliage on the mountain. Special activities will include mountain biking, music concerts, hiking and more. Two of our favourite activities from last year include the ziplines and disc golf.
Harry Potter Drone Art Show – September 18 & 19
Get your tickets now for one of two shows taking place at the Jacques Cartier Pier at 7:45pm for a Harry Potter experience Montreal has never seen before! 1200 drones will be taking to the sky to create visuals related to the films, to the musical accompaniment of a live electric violinist. This show has visited over 45 cities internationally already and now it’s our turn! Tickets start at $50/person.
Fall Fair Old Port – September 24 – October 18
Old Montreal wants to celebrate too with its first-ever fair taking place Wednesdays to Sundays this season. The fair will feature carnival rides, games and food. Admission will be free but tickets or bracelets need to be purchased for the activities.
