Jabberwocky Studio: the Newest Addition to Montreal Indoor Playgrounds

The gorgeous weather this past weekend didn’t stop a handful of families from checking out the newest addition to the list of Montreal indoor playgrounds. Based in NDG, Jabberwocky Studio caters to children between the ages of 0 to 8. A welcome addition to the neighborhood, especially when it gets colder, this is definitely a space to check out, especially if you have a toddler at home.

Play Spaces

The studio is divided into a number of play spaces. There is a mini grocery mart complete with shopping cart, a play structure, a reading nook, an amazing foam wall, a magnatile wall and a special area just for babies. Parents can relax with a cup of coffee and rest assured that the little ones won’t go hungry. Kid-approved snacks like Cheerios and granola bars are available for sale. Boxed lunches will soon be available too. Like most indoor playgrounds, outside food is not allowed in.

On our visit, I brought Hannah (9) and Alex (7) but found the space better geared to Leo (2) who was taking a nap at the time. I think this studio, aside from a few specific workshops, is ideal for kids 1-5.

Workshops

The studio also offers a variety of workshops throughout the week as part of its open art afternoons. Special classes like Monkey Rock Music will also be offered. The calendar for the month of August is full of great stuff for kids of all ages and can be found on their Facebook page. A few that stand out are:

The Paint Crawl on August 16 & September 2 – a messy but fun edible paint activity for 1-2 year olds
Humpty Dumpty: An Exploration of Eggs on August 23 for 3-5 year olds.

A creation of Emily Feist, this mom of a 19-month-old, was inspired during her mat leave to create a local indoor playspace that was also educational. One can definitely see the love and attention to detail she put into building every nook of the studio.

All the Info

The entry fee per child is $12.95 with one parent included. Discounts are offered for siblings and a book of discounted passes can also be purchased. Workshops are $25.
